Best vacuum pump out there.Oct 19, 2009

Yellow Jacket makes the best HVAC tools and that's not an opinion, it's a fact. This pump works great and I bought it for a good price. The quality of it's construction is far above any of the competition such as 'Robin Air' or 'Just Better' brand vacuum pumps. I have used them all but this one is the only brand I will buy. This is the best vacuum pump on the market.

Yellow Jacket 93560 SuperEvac 6 CFM Vacuum PumpAug 09, 2012
By SJK I've had this YJ SuperEvac vacuum pump for several years and it has been rock solid. It was fairly expensive, but has lasted through lots of use. Mine still works great and pulls a deep vacuum, but it can be rebuilt if needed and repair parts are readily available from YJ. It's a two-stage vane type pump rated at 6-CFM, so is good for most resi and many commercial systems. It has the standard 1/4" flare port as well as a 1/2" flare port on top to connect either a larger hose or the optional YJ vacuum manifold tree. The complete YJ manifold setup is an expensive option, but really helps speed up the evacuation process on larger systems and allows you to get the most out of this vac pump. Changing the oil regularly is another thing that will not only prolong the life of the pump, but will allow it to a pull down faster and into a deeper vacuum. Speaking of which, it states in the owner's manual that YJ requires you use their vac pump oil or the pump's warranty is void, but I've used several other brands of oil in my pump without issue. The pump has a built in vacuum gauge which is nice, but IMO, not really necessary. It also has a gas ballast on the second stage and a bypass valve to isolate the pump from the rest of the system being evacuated. The oil drain plug is flush to the face of the pump, so there's no exposed fitting to get damaged, like on Robinair's 6-CFM pump and the oil fill/exhaust opening is large enough to insert a funnel. The exhaust port is also a standard garden hose fitting so that you can attach a garden hose to vent the oil fumes out of the room when running the pump in an enclosed area for an extended time. YJ also has an oil exhaust filter available for their pumps, so that is another option. There is a built in ring at the base of the handle to attach a rope so you can hoist the pump up on a roof. If you happen to accidentally knock the pump over in the back of the van or up on a roof, oil can spill out from the fill/vent hole. To help prevent this you can remove the vent cap and replace it with a threaded hose bib cap, but need to remember to remove it before you start using the pump. On my pump I have an old style rubber sink drain stopper with bead chain attached to the pump handle that I press over the vent cap when I store it. It works pretty well as long as I also keep the bypass valve and gas ballast closed, although it can still sometimes allow oil to weep out if the pump stays rolled over on its side for an extended period of time, but at least the stopper will just pop off and remain tethered to the pump if I'm in a hurry and forget to remove it before turning on the pump. The only down side to the pump, if there is one, is that it's a little heavy, but this just seems to be normal for all of the vac pumps in this size range.
