Great for HVACDec 09, 2012
By GunsmokeNC magnet to hold the meter where you want it is great. Capacitor range will cover anything in HVACR field. Non contact volt detection is good. Wish the light would stay on longer, I know it would drain the battery more, but it can't be that much more of a drain. About every 2-3 years, if biz is good, I try to buy new equipment. I'm on my 4th or 5th HS36. I keep one as a spare and hand down the rest.

random number generator ?Oct 27, 2012
By Joe I am a Master electrician and hold a class "A" TACL license and have been using meters for 20 years. This meter is really nice, but it does have a strange feature of running through random numbers while testing un-energized circuits.. I had to carry 2 meters around with me the 1st few months I owned this thing.. I didn't trust it because of all the random number generation while in AC voltage test mode... I have been searching for technical support or others who own this thing, but have found little. The unstable nature of this meter in voltage test mode takes some getting used to... Sometimes when it senses real voltage the light comes on and it beeps, but it takes a certain voltage to trigger this comforting feature.. Field Piece may have always been made like this. I have always used Fluke, Ideal, even SQ D WAY back in the tester days...They read "0" volts when the circuit being tested is dead. The field peice reads whatever it feels like generating, which is unsetteling when I am using this thing to safe gaurd against personal injury, death and equipment damage... Other than that one REALLY weird feature I really like the thing... If some one knows something that I don't, I would love feedback. Maybe I am missing something...
